Brick Stitch
Step by step instructions on the brick stitch
This stitch can also be used on a pattern that is intended for the peyote stitch, simply turn the pattern on it’s side to use the brick stitch.
This stitch is a little tricky to start off, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy. The key is to keep the right tension on the beads.
To start the brick stitch, string 3 beads and then bring the string back through the first bead. Work the 3 beads into a triangle This can be difficlut at first, but use your fingers to shape them and keep the thread tension a little tight, eventually they will go into shape!
Hold the brick stitch triangle so that there is 2 beads on the top and one on the bottom
Now string on a fourth bead and bring it alongside the bead in the bottom row, pass the thread back up through the second bead on the top row so now there are 2 beads in each row.
Add another bead, and pass the string back down through the last bead in the bottom row – there should be 3 beads in the top row and 2 on the bottom. Add another bead to the bottom row and thread the string up through the last bead on the top row. Continue adding beads in this manner until you have finished your brick stitch pattern.
You can use the brick stitck to create bracelets, necklaces, earrings, bags, pillow – anything you can imagine! Expiriment with all the different patterns out there and be creative!
